At Roselands Nursery we recognise our responsibility to safeguard the welfare of children
who attend the setting.
We recognise that:
- the welfare of the child is paramount
- all children regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation or identity have the right to equal protection from all types of
harm or abuse - working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting young people’s welfare.
We will endeavour to safeguard children and young people by:
- valuing them, listening to and respecting them. Giving them a voice.
- adopting child protection guidelines through procedures for staff and volunteers
- recruiting staff and volunteers safely ensuring all necessary checks are made
- sharing information about child protection and good practice with children, parents, staff and volunteers
- sharing information about concerns with agencies who need to know, and involving parents and children appropriately
- providing effective management for staff and volunteers through supervision, support and training.
- Upholding a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination from parents and visitors as per The Prevent Duty
- Promoting British Values in an environment of tolerance and acceptance.
All staff are trained to at least Level 2 safeguarding. The setting has robust training procedures and safeguarding is a standing agenda point at every staff meeting. As part of ongoing training we review serious case reviews, videos and individual experiences to ensure staff are continually being upskilled and widen their knowledge base further.
The setting has two designated safeguarding leads who are jointly responsible for the setting including safeguarding. Our DSL’s have received additional training as follows (please be aware this is not an exhaustive list as training is always on-going):

Operation Encompass
Roselands Nursery is proud to be part of Operation Encompass.
Operation Encompass is a national police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children who experience Domestic Abuse. It is in place in every police force in England and Wales, the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Gibraltar.
Children were recognised as victims of domestic abuse in their own right in the 2021 Domestic Abuse Act.
Operation Encompass means that the local police force will notify the Early Years and Childcare Service about all police attended Domestic incidents where children under the age of 5 are known to be, whether they are present at the time or not. These notifications are then passed to Early Years settings.
If the child attends Roselands Nursery, then the DSLs will received an operation encompass notification which inform us there has been a police attended incident. This notification informs us about the general context of the incident and includes the Voice of the Child.
We are aware that as a result of this notification, we must do nothing that puts the child/ren or the non-abusing adult at risk. Our role is to provide support to the child/ren if needed, and to the family if they choose to voluntarily share information about the incident with us. If, as a result of the notification, we have concerns regarding the safety or welfare of the child/ren, we will follow our procedures for escalating and reporting concerns to Front Door/MASH, and the child’s allocated social worker if they have one.
The Operation Encompass notification is recorded in line with all other confidential safeguarding and child protection information.
