Swine Flu
We have recently issued all parent/carers with a letter from the Torbay NHS Care Trust, please contact the office if you have not received a copy of the letter. We would like to remind you that the symptoms of swine flu are similar to normal seasonal flu and include some of the following:
Fever, fatigue, lack of appetite, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, pain in muscles and joints, headache and chills, in a small number of cases, people have also reported vomiting and diarrhoea.
If a member of your family has any of these symptoms, please keep them at home and contact the national Swine Flu Information Line on 0800 1 513 513 or visit www.nhs.uk.
Raisins
Raisins are a great helthy snack for children, but we have been advised that we need to be aware that they can cause potential tooth decay if given to children as a snack on their own. It is better that they are served with other things at snack time such as breadsticks or, as with other sugary snacks as part of the child's meal. The raisins when chewed tend to stick to teeth just like a toffee or sticky sweet would and therefore are likely to cause tooth decay. Within the nursery children will only be offered raisins alongside other snacks such as toast, breadsticks etc.
Rice Milk advice from the Food Standards Agency
Please be advised that the Food Standards Agency have issued regarding giving young children rice drinks as a replacement for cow's milk, breast milk or infant formula. For further information please see the Food Standards Agency website at www.food.gov.uk/news/newsarchive/2009/may/arsenicinriceresearch.
